The Honourable Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon was born on 4 August 1900 to Lord and Lady Glamis. She married His Royal Highness Prince Albert, Duke of York. Following the abdication of King Edward VIII, her husband acceded as King George VI and on 12 May 1937 she was crowned Queen Consort.

The Queen Mother, as she is affectionately known, shows warmth and affection to everyone she meets, be it children, soldiers (picture opposite shows her presenting shamrock to the Irish Guards on St.Patrick's Day, 17 March 1997.
